Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who was re-elected as President on Sunday, May 28, attended the inauguration ceremony at the Presidential Palace. After taking his oath, Erdoğan went to Anıtkabir, the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of modern Turkey, and then returned to the Palace to attend the ceremony.
Many world leaders attended the event, along with athletes, artists, religious figures, Turkey’s leading figure in the world of science, Aziz Sancar, and former football player Mesut Özil. Ali Erbaş, the head of the Diyanet (Presidency of Religious Affairs), was accompanied by Ecumenical Patriarch and Istanbul Metropolitan Bishop Bartholomeos.
During the ceremony, Erdoğan delivered a message of unity stating, “We will embrace all 85 million people, regardless of their political views, ethnic backgrounds, religious beliefs, and sects.”
